Welcome to Affordable Housing Hume
The United Nations Charter states that access to safe, secure and affordable housing is a fundamental human right and housing is recognized under the Ottawa Charter as one of the
key social determinants of health.
Housing affordability in Australia is now one of the most urgent social issues facing this country as a whole. Within our communities in the Hume Region there are now many low
and more middle income households who cannot access affordable housing due to insufficient income, lack of housing supply and rising housing and land prices.
It is now acknowledged that there needs to be a systematic approach to grow an investment industry for affordable housing to bring certainty and clarity not only to those seeking housing
but to those who are in the business of providing housing.
Affordable Housing Hume aims to work with and educate the public, Local, State and Federal Governments and all community groups and organisations about the housing crisis and the
need to urgently increase the availability of and improve access to affordable housing in the Hume Region.
We value the contributions of people in the community who share our concerns and who have a genuine commitment to assisting those who are working to achieve an increase in the
supply of affordable housing.
